Barcelona signed Vitor Roque in the worst possible circumstances, and two years after signing and releasing the Brazilian, days have proven that the player does not lack talent, but the problem was only in the timing of his arrival at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona moved to sign Roque in 2023 to compensate for the absence of Javi due to injury, but his arrival coincided with the end of the Xavi Hernandez era amid fluctuating results and a state of division behind the scenes, which hindered his adaptation process within the club and in European football in general.
The contract with Vitor Roque cost Barcelona’s treasury 30 million euros, before he left for the Brazilian Palmeiras for 25.5 million euros. However, Barcelona placed a clause in the sales contract that allows him to obtain a fifth of the percentage of selling his contract in the future.
Barcelona made a new mistake when it tried to bring Roque back from loan to Real Betis in order to sell his contract to Palmeiras. In negotiations, he reached the point of waiving 30% of the rights to sell Moroccan Abdel Samad Zalzouli’s contract, so that Barcelona had only 20% instead of 50% previously.
Vitor Roque appeared in a distinguished appearance in Brazil and led his team to reach the Copa Libertadores final, proving in the end that the problem was not with him but in the timing and circumstances of his joining Barca, knowing that he gained the trust of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, the coach of the Brazilian national team, and he may get his opportunity to represent his country in the 2026 World Cup.
