Urios: Fewer Texts After Clermont Win vs UBB

The Auvergne club ended a series of three defeats in a row by winning this Saturday against Bordeaux-Bègles (34-19).

In doubt after three consecutive defeats, Clermont, notably supported by its opener Harry Plummer and good work from its forwards, reacted at the expense of Bordeaux-Bègles (34-19), Sunday in its Marcel-Michelin stadium in a match of the 13th day of Top 14. Clermontois remained on two defeats in the European Cup at Saracens (47-10) and against Sale (35-14) but also a setback painful in Perpignan, yet last in the ranking and reduced to fourteen for an hour (26-20).

At the end of the match, Clermont manager Christophe Urios declared on Canal +: “We were expected around the corner, I was expected around the corner. Well there you go, it’s a good answer, against a team which was full of confidence, which is not easy to play, in difficult conditions. We played a match like we haven’t done for a long time. Particularly since the November resumption. Before we talked about rugby, we talked about men. Today, we did the job. That’s the most important thing for me, it’s a very good answer, indeed.”

“There are people who are world champions for dividing us”

The Clermont technician also returned to the criticism that fell on him and his team recently. “It doesn’t hurt me, because I know. But all these revolutionaries who want to talk… I would just like to give them an overview of what I met three years ago. I don’t know what they did… It’s all well and good to criticize. But today is not the time to talk about that. I’ll take care of it because I’m not used to not taking care of it, I’ll take care of it quickly. But today, I don’t want to talk about that. I just want to say that I am happy and I am proud of my players. I say thank you to them and we will have a good week. I will have fewer slightly unpleasant texts this evening, fewer provocative texts. There have been some, sometimes it’s incredible…”

And to continue: “I had the impression, when we read the press, when we listened to the gossip, that we had not won a match, that we were going to move away from everything, that we were almost going to doubt. So it’s true that we are not having a good recovery from November. It’s true that it wasn’t us. It’s true that for lots of reasons, we weren’t good. But our matches happened before and I find that disgusting. There are people who try to divide us. There are people who are world champions at dividing us. But today, the response was strong compared to leaders, players. This is the most important. So, I’m going to have a good evening with my family.”
