Sestao has another great athlete among its inhabitants. Oscar Fernández Calderón has achieved the feat of winning the bronze medal at the Jiu Jitsu World Championship, held in Las Vegas this December. That is why the municipality’s City Council received the fighter from Sestaota this afternoon in the Plenary Hall, where they presented him with a High Oven, surrounded by his family and a large group of students whom he trains in his academy.

In this tribute, the mayor, Gorka Álvarez, has valued the work of this athlete, who as a child began playing soccer in the lower categories of Sestao River. A sport that changed in adolescence to martial arts, now winning a prestigious third place in the World Cup. The first mayor commented that “it is a pride for the people to have someone like you, who shows us every day that, with hard work and heart, anything is possible.”

For his part, Oscar Fernández Calderón has acknowledged that the tribute “excites me and makes me very happy to receive it from my people.” Likewise, he added that the medal “is a reward for many years of effort, work and dedication to this sport.” As for the future, he stated that “I will try to continue achieving success both on a personal level and as a teacher, with all the new generations of students, who are achieving great results.”
