Dennis Higler refereed the match between Feyenoord and FC Twente (1-1) on Sunday, but made anything but a good impression. In the De Telegraaf podcast Kick-Off, reporter Mike Verweij believes, among other things, that the referee is ‘really a home whistler’.
The Rotterdam team had great difficulty with FC Twente on Sunday. Coach Robin van Persie’s team quickly fell behind and managed to score a point in the 75th minute thanks to an excellent Timon Wellenreuther and a goal from Gonçalo Borges. According to Verweij, the Rotterdam team also received a lot of help from referee Higler.
“Dennis Higler did not know how quickly to blow his whistle when Feyenoord conceded a corner,” the reporter begins about the referee. “Then he already whistled and it was a foul. One of the situations in which Higler emphasized Verweij’s opinion took place in the first half, when the referee disallowed an FC Twente goal at 0-1. The referee thought that Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther was hindered too much by Thomas van den Belt.
