Because of the unity of the four largest tennis tournaments in the world: While the Australian Open is apparently close to an agreement with the still young players’ union in view of the lawsuit brought by the PTPA, the French Open and Wimbledon are far away from it.

This comes as a bit of a surprise: As The Athletic reports, an agreement will be reached between the “Professional Tennis Players Association” (PTPA), founded by Novak Djokovic, and the Australian Open at the beginning of 2026. As a reminder: A few months ago, the PTPA filed lawsuits in several places against the four Grand Slam tournaments, but also the ATP and the WTA.
Until now it had been assumed that the phalanx would at least hold the line in front of Majors. What exactly a possible agreement between the PTPA and Tennis Australia might look like is not yet known. The only thing is that this is handled through a court in the USA.
The organizers of Roland-Garros and Wimbledon have filed a motion that the lawsuit should be dismissed. This is on the grounds that they are not subject to US jurisdiction.
The ATP and WTA have done this before. Both professional tours describe the PTPA’s lawsuit as baseless and without substance.
