The NBA has begun consultations with owners and general managers to identify new tools against tankingin light of the betting scandal that hit the league at the start of the season.
The Board of Governors on Friday was presented with hypotheses on pick guards, lotteria Draft and other mechanisms.
Proposals under discussion include: limit protections (top-4 or 14+ only), ban consecutive top-4s for the same deductible e block lottery positions from March 1st.
The idea is to discourage “strategic” benches in the final and push the teams to compete to the end.
The theme is intertwined with new rules on injury reporting and to cases cited in federal investigations, involving Terry Rozier e Chauncey Billups.
Among the historical examples recalled: Dallas 2023, with Luka Dončić e Kyrie Irving stopped during the current season to protect a pick.
