2026 Olympics: Ski Resort Funding Crisis

The president of the International Skiing Federation (FIS) Johan Eliasch expressed concerns about the preparations for the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The main reason is the work in the Livigno resort, where competitions in snowboarding and acrobatic skiing are to be held.

In recent days, the organizers have been dealing with technical problems in the production of artificial snow.

“The Italian government and the regions that organize the games still have a lot of work to do and they need to speed it up. Three times a day – morning, lunch and night, we have phone calls and part of the problem in Livigno is the snowmaking. They have had a few delays and again, it’s not for lack of effort,” Eliasch was quoted as saying by AFP.

The sixty-three-year-old official said that the Italian government did not release funds for the works.

“So they’re just getting away with it, which is very unfortunate. It should never have happened. It’s inexplicable. Hopefully we can get it back on track. We have contingency plans, plan B, plan C, even plan D. Hopefully that will do,” Eliasch added.

The production of artificial snow was originally supposed to start last week.
