The news was expected, it is now official. Three days after terminating his contract with Fluminense, his training club where he returned in July 2024, Thiago Silva found a new base this Saturday. And as several Brazilian media had announced, “O Monstro” (the monster, in French) is making its return to Europe.
The former player of AC Milan (2006-2012), Chelsea (2020-2024) but especially Paris Saint-Germain (2012-2020) will now wear the colors of FC Porto at least until the end of the season while his contract allows him to stay an additional season as an option. “Portista family, Thiago Silva is one of us,” wrote the Portuguese club on its social networks to formalize the signing of the 41-year-old defender.
Thiago Silva returns to a club that he has already represented since he had worn the colors of the B team on 14 occasions during the 2004/2005 season, enough to close “a perfect cycle, in a house that he knows, in search of what he was missing at the time: consecration in the first team” according to the press release.
Returning to his native country in the summer of 2024, the Brazilian central defender, considered one of the best in the world in his position, has triumphed in several European clubs and has 31 trophies. “O Monstro” notably won the Champions League with Chelsea, a few months after leaving PSG. In the French capital, the captain had won seven championships, five French Cups, six League Cups.
