Executive Board Meeting: Olympic Capital Updates

Archery events at the upcoming Olympic Games were a major agenda item.

An in-depth discussion took place on the competition format of the Los Angeles 2028 Gamesfollowing a consultation carried out with member associations to evaluate the replacement of the three-archer team event by a two-person doubles competition.

No changes will be made for LA28. The future viability of a doubles event has been listed for further discussion.

The commission also reviewed a draft qualification system for the next Olympic Games, which will now be sent to the sports department of the International Olympic Committee for review. The qualification system will ultimately be approved by the IOC Executive Board.

A quota allocation process for Dakar was approved, following exceptionally high demand during the submission period, along with the technical officials’ team proposal.

Recommendations from the recent Olympic Summit were discussed, particularly regarding the AIN status of archers holding Russian and Belarusian passports.

The commission decided to adopt the International Olympic Committee’s recommendation allowing archers in age categories under 21 and below to compete without restriction, while retaining the AIN designation and without any national identification, including uniform, flag and anthem.
