[SWTV 스포츠W 임재훈 기자] Korean Women’s Professional Tennis (WTA) top ranker Jessica Pegula (USA, world ranking 6th) was selected as the winner of the ‘Sportsmanship of the Year Award’ for the 2025 season.

Pegula was honored with the Karen Krantsky Sportsmanship Award, where the winner is decided by votes from fellow players, from the list of major individual award winners for the 2025 season announced by the WTA Tour on the 20th.

In addition to his athletic performance, Pegula received high scores for his considerate attitude, spirit of fair play, and respect for fellow players.

Ons Javert (75th, Tunisia) received the WTA Tour Sportsmanship Award for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024.

Pegula, born in 1994, has a total of 9 wins on the tour, including 3 wins on the WTA tour this season. He won the Korea Open held in Seoul in 2023, and was runner-up at the US Open last year.

He is half-Korean, born to one of America’s leading entrepreneurial couples, Terry Pegula, an American, and Kim Pegula, a Korean mother.

Pegula’s mother, Kim Pegula, who was born in Seoul in 1969 and adopted by the United States in 1974, met Terry while working at a restaurant in New York during her college years, married him in 1993, and gave birth to Jessica Pegula.

The Pegula couple are entrepreneurs engaged in natural gas, real estate, sports and entertainment businesses in the United States, and are a sports tycoon whose name is included in the ranking of sports tycoons published every year by an American business magazine. They are the owners of the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL) and the Buffalo Sabers of the North American Ice Hockey League (NHL).
