Rafael Guanaes refused Botafogo’s proposal to succeed Davide Ancelotti and will continue at Mirassol in 2026. The information is provided by Globoesportewhich states that the coach, who has a contract with Mirassol until 2026, chose to stay at the lion to compete in the Libertadores with the club.
The 44-year-old coach was the Rio club’s main target to hire the son of Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti. If he chose to leave, he would have to pay a clause with the value of all salaries until the end of the contract – December 31, 2026.
Rafael Guanaes was elected best coach of Brasileirão 2025, after a historic campaign at Mirassol, which finished in fourth place and qualified for the Libertadores. The coach made his debut in the Brasileirão this season, at Mirassol, and recorded 18 wins, 13 draws and seven defeats in 38 games.
Rafael Guanaes renewed his contract with Mirassol in November and said he was in no rush to leave the club. The coach admitted, even so, that he liked coaching a great player in Brazilian football: «It’s something I think about a lot.»
The main cause of Davide Ancelotti’s departure was physical trainer Luca Guerra. The Italian, son of Brazilian coach Carlo Ancelotti, informed Botafogo that he did not intend to continue, after learning that the stove had fired Luca Guerra (physical trainer). The Italian stated that he would only stay if the entire technical team continued, something that Botafogo denied.
