Alcaraz’s Shot of the Year: Tennis Masterclass 2024

The ATP, the association that manages world men’s professional tennis, has announced what the tennis “shot of the year” is for 2025. It was voted by fans on the ATP website and Carlos Alcaraz did it in April at the Monte Carlo tournament, which he won in the final against Lorenzo Musetti. The shot, made in the round of 16 against Daniel Altmaier, is part of a point in which there is a small compendium of Alcaraz’s qualities: power (in the first exchanges), speed (in recovering a couple of situations that other tennis players would have given up for lost) and above all class and talent, in tweener (the shot under the legs, done from the back) thanks to which he comes out of a complicated situation in a great way. It’s not a winner (with difficulty, but Altmaier manages to get there), but it serves to prepare the next blow. But you are here to see it, not to read about it:

It is the “point of the year” as far as the ATP tournaments are concerned, the most important ones after the Slams (the points in those four tournaments could therefore not be voted).

This point by Karolina Muchova – also in this case with a shot from the shoulders and under the legs – was chosen as the best at the women’s WTA level:
