Vitinha’s family is “in mourning”. This Wednesday, the former Olympique de Marseille striker announced that the children who died in the tragic explosion of a building in Trévoux (Ain) were his nephews. “My cousin Bruno lost his children in a tragedy in France,” he wrote, sharing a pot to “bring a little comfort” to his family.
Aged three and five, the two children died on Monday despite resuscitation attempts by rescue teams. Around 5:30 p.m., an explosion occurred on the ground floor of a four-story building in this town located north of Lyon. Around 70 people lived in the building which, according to Mayor Marc Péchoux, was “blown away”.
The deceased woman committed suicide by opening the gas
Tuesday evening, a third body was found in the rubble after more than an hour and a half of digging with excavators. It’s a woman. The prosecution indicated this Wednesday that the deceased woman committed suicide by turning on the gas.
13 people were also hospitalized in a relative emergency while 53 others were treated for minor injuries or by the psychological unit set up. An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the explosion; it has been entrusted to the gendarmerie.
A short-lived player for Olympique de Marseille between January 2023 and February 2024 despite a record transfer (32 million euros), Vitinha is now playing in Italy, at Genoa.
