FIFA announced about increasing the prize fund of the 2026 World Cup by 50% compared to the previous tournament in Qatar.
After a FIFA council meeting in Doha, it was announced that a record $727 million will be distributed among the organization’s members as a result of the 2026 World Cup. Of this amount, $655 million will be the prize money for the countries participating in the tournament.
The winning team at the World Championship will receive $50 million, the finalist – $33 million, the prize for third place will be $29 million, for fourth – $27 million, for fifth-eighth places – $19 million, 9th-16th – $15 million, 17th-32nd – $11 million, 33rd-48th – $9 million.
In addition, each qualifying team will receive $1.5 million to cover preparation costs for the tournament. This means that all teams are guaranteed at least $10.5 million for participation in the 2026 World Cup.
The winner of the 2022 World Cup, the Argentina national team, then received $42 million.
“The World Cup will be a breakthrough event in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The World Championships will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico. For the first time, 48 teams will take part in the tournament, the final will take place at MetLife Stadium (New Jersey).
