The UEFA Executive Committee has officially appointed the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain, to host the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, according to an official announcement released by UEFA following a meeting in Tirana, Albania.
Estadio Metropolitano Wins 2027 Final Bid
European football’s governing body confirmed the venue selection during its executive gathering in the Albanian capital. The Estadio Metropolitano secures the showcase men’s club match for 2027. Alongside the marquee Madrid fixture, the committee awarded several other hosting duties across various UEFA competitions. The National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland, will host the 2027 UEFA Women’s Champions League final, while Salzburg, Austria, was chosen as the venue for the 2026 UEFA Super Cup.
Additional tournament hosts confirmed by the executive body include Pesaro, Italy, for the 2026 UEFA Futsal Champions League final. Astana, Kazakhstan, received the hosting rights for the 2027 UEFA Futsal Under-19 EURO, and Osijek, Croatia, will stage the 2027 UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO.
Squad Regulations Amended for Long-Term Injuries
In addition to awarding future finals, the UEFA Executive Committee approved a notable amendment to the 2025/26 men’s club competitions regulations. According to UEFA’s official statement, clubs are now permitted to make a temporary replacement of a maximum of one outfield player dealing with a long-term injury or illness during the league phase, valid up to and including matchday 6.
The governing body stated that the regulatory adaptation aims to prevent squad lists from being unfairly reduced while safeguarding players from escalating workload pressures.
Financial Distributions and Domestic Matches Abroad
The committee authorized a total distribution amount of €1,000,000 for the 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League Finals. Payouts are structured based on final team placement: €400,000 (40 percent) for the winner, €250,000 (25 percent) for the runner-up, €200,000 (20 percent) for the third-placed team, and €150,000 (15 percent) for the fourth-placed side.
Discussions also addressed requests from the RFEF and FIGC seeking authorization to play domestic league matches outside their home territories, specifically outside UEFA territory. While the committee acknowledged the issue as a growing trend, no immediate decision was reached. UEFA announced plans to conduct a comprehensive round of consultations with all European football stakeholders, including supporters, before determining a final stance.
Grassroots Initiatives and Next Meeting Schedule
Earlier on the day of the meeting, a grassroots event took place at the FSHF Football House in Tirana as part of the UEFA Football in Schools program. UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and Albanian Football Association President Armand Duka opened the ceremony alongside 100 local schoolchildren and football legends.
The next meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee is scheduled for December 3, 2025, at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
