After several foreign options and rejections from Jindřich Trpišovský or Slaven Bilič, Miroslav Koubek should take over the Czech national team. Negotiations with the former coach of Viktoria Plzeň are going according to plan iSport.cz to a “quick agreement”, even though other names of potential adepts were to be discussed at Strahov during Monday.
“Míra Koubek has already started assembling his implementation team and wants Marek Bakoš and Jaroslav Plašil as his assistants,” said one of the sources inFootball.
The latter already worked with the national team during the November meeting. “If, after so many years, we got Jarda Plašil into Czech football, I would be happy if he could be there,” temporary coach Jaroslav Köstl expressed one of his wishes after the friendly match with San Marino (1:0).
While Köstl is unlikely to be on the new executive team, Koubek will have to deal with strained relations in the cabin.
It was rumored that some older players, who remember him as Karel Jarolím’s national team assistant, did not want his involvement and expressed their opinion to both general manager Pavlo Nedvěd and FAČR chairman David Trund right after the Faroe Islands (1:2), when Ivan Hašek was recalled.
Subsequently, the management of the FAČR focused on the search for a foreign coach, but could not find anyone. And if it did, it couldn’t find consensus across the entire executive committee. The last time they rejected the national team was the aforementioned Trpišovský and Bilic.
Another question is how long Koubek will sign for. Allegedly, he should have demanded a contract not only until the 2026 World Cup, but until the 2028 European Championship. And he refused to go to help only for the March play-off. “We are working on getting a coach for the national team. I don’t want to comment on what is going on in the media right now,” Trunda told Sport.cz.
