Van Persie & Studio Voetbal: Ajax-Feyenoord Debate

Robin van Persie made some striking statements after the lost match against Ajax (2-0). NOS. Feyenoord’s coach stated, among other things, that Ajax – Feyenoord is ‘not a top match’. That statement led to laughter in the studio on Sunday evening Studio Football.

“The Classic is always a match in itself, but if you look at the playing styles of both teams you may wonder whether this is a top match. But okay, that is everyone’s right,” said Van Persie in the mixed zone of the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

“When you talk about a top match, you are talking about two teams with certain playing principles and a certain game intention, who want to play football and challenge each other.”

“I didn’t see that today. If you look at their approach to the game… A top match, then you are talking about Feyenoord against PSV. I think that is a top match,” concluded Van Persie.

“His previous performances were better than this performance,” says the Vitesse fan. “I just think this is nonsense. Why would you say this? You only say this to please your supporters a little.”

Van Roosmalen is then asked whether he thinks Van Persie is a ‘sore loser’. “I think so, yes. I mean, you say ‘Ajax is not a top match’. And you lose 2-0…” says the journalist, while the audience in the studio starts laughing at Van Persie’s statements.

“I don’t think that’s the strongest thing you can say, if I look at it objectively. I don’t think he needs to be fired, but I don’t think it’s a strong media performance,” Van Roosmalen concludes.
