World Cup 2026: 5 Million Ticket Requests Reported by FIFA

Interest in tickets for the World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico is high. According to FIFA, five million ticket requests have been received in the first 24 hours of the third sales phase. Fans from over 200 countries have applied for tickets. Almost two million tickets have already been sold in the previous two sales phases.

Most inquiries so far have come from the three host countries. This is followed by Colombia, England and Brazil as well as Argentina, Scotland and Germany. Loud is particularly in demand Fifa the duel between Colombia and Portugal on June 27th in Miami. The German group game against Ecuador on June 25th in East Rutherford is also in the top 5 games.

Clear criticism from fan associations

In addition to the raffle, tickets are also offered through the participating national associations, for example through the DFB. The prices for these have caused great anger among fans in Europe.

The fan organization Football Supporters Europe (FSE) was “horrified” at the “horrendous ticket prices”. In some smaller countries, the costs for the games in the group phase exceed the average monthly wage of a resident.

According to FSE, spectators in the respective fan blocks have to pay around 6,900 US dollars (around 5,875 euros) to be able to accompany their teams to a possible final. This is five times as much as at the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar. Added to this are the costs of flights and accommodation.

DFB regrets high prices

The German Football Association regrets the high ticket prices for the World Cup. “The World Cup is far away from Germany and a visit involves a lot of effort and high travel costs anyway. That’s another reason why we would have liked cheaper tickets for our fans overall,” said sports director Andreas Rettig.

The cheapest tickets in the national team’s fan block for the first group game against Curaçao on June 14th in Houston start at 155 euros. For a ticket against Ivory Coast on June 20th in Toronto you have to pay at least 190 euros. At least 230 euros are due for the last group game on June 25th against Ecuador in East Rutherford. Prices in the most expensive categories are up to 600 euros.

Like all other teams, Germany has eight percent of the tickets available per game for the fan block. There are around 4,300 tickets against Curaçao, almost 2,500 against Ivory Coast and more than 4,800 against Ecuador.

The tournament will take place from June 11, 2026 to July 19, 2026. For the first time, 48 teams are taking part in the World Cup.
