The Argentine Justice Department raided the headquarters of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and several clubs this Tuesday (12/9/2025) in the framework of an investigation into a financial company for alleged money laundering, police sources and Argentine media reported.
The court order included the AFA property in Ezeiza, in the south of Buenos Aires, where the national team usually trains and the headquarters of Racing Club, San Lorenzo, Independiente and Banfield, among others, within the framework of more than thirty simultaneous operations, according to sources.
“At the moment there have been between 25 and 30 raids between football clubs and private homes,” said the source. Justice seeks to collect accounting information regarding the financial company Sur Finanzas, sponsor of several clubs and suspected of fraudulent maneuvers.
In November, the General Tax Directorate filed a judicial complaint against the financial company for the alleged evasion of more than 800,000 million pesos (about 550 million dollars at the official exchange rate).
It is a financial company that has participated in numerous operations in Argentine football, belonging to businessman Ariel Vallejo, close to the head of the AFA, Claudio Tapia.
In 2024, Sur Finanzas was the official sponsor of the Professional League and the Argentine soccer team.
According to local media, justice is trying to determine if the financial company operated with alleged front men and granted loans to clubs in exchange, for example, for broadcasting rights.
One of the raided clubs, Excursionistas, issued a statement on Tuesday in which it denied any “corporate, financial” and “administrative relationship” with the firm under investigation.
“The Excursionistas Athletic Club informs its members, supporters and the public that the only existing link with said firm has been a sponsorship agreement, under the usual terms in which the institution celebrates commercial agreements to support sports and social activities,” he stated.
