Liverpool’s season has hit several low points in their chaotic defense of the Premier League title. Although they managed to draw 3-3 against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, the result leaves deep consequences that could shake the ‘Reds’ to the core.
For the third game in a row, Mohamed Salah was a substitute under Arne Slot and, for the second time away from home, he did not even come off the bench. The ‘Egyptian King’, recently criticized for not intervening during the team’s bad streak, decided to break his silence before the media, but his statements, rather than calming the mood, tense them.
“I can’t believe it, I am very, very disappointed. I have done a lot for this club over the years and especially last season. Now I am sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems that the club has thrown me under the bus. I think it is very clear that someone wanted all the blame to fall on me,” Salah declared.
“I received a lot of promises in the summer and so far I’m on the bench for three games, so I can’t say that they have been fulfilled. I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the coach and suddenly we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, the way I see it, that someone doesn’t want me at the club.”
His comments have been interpreted by many as an indication that, if the situation does not change drastically – possibly with the departure of Slot – Salah does not see a future at Anfield. With Saudi clubs on the prowl, his departure from Liverpool could come sooner and more dramatically than expected.
