Bonuses that encourage competition
Many national sports federations have announced significant bonuses for outstanding performance to quickly encourage athletes.
The Vietnam Sports Federation has decided to award merit certificates and direct bonuses to gymnastics and aerobics athletes. A gold medal costs 10 million dong, a silver medal costs 6 million dong, and a bronze medal costs 4 million dong.
The Vietnam Athletics Federation, a key player in Vietnamese sports, has offered the entire squad a “huge” bonus of up to VND1 billion if the goal of winning 12 gold medals is achieved. This is a great motivation for athletes in this sport, which has always been considered a “gold mine” at the SEA Games.
In the field of mixed martial arts (MMA), participating in the Southeast Asian Games for the first time, athletes will receive VND100 million for each gold medal, confirming the industry’s interest in new sports in line with international trends.
The Vietnam Badminton Federation announced that it will pay bonuses of 100 million dong for gold medals, 50 million dong for silver medals, and 30 million dong for bronze medals, and aims to win at least one bronze medal in this tournament.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation has been actively raising bonus funds since September, and the bonuses will be paid in US dollars. Gold medals cost $700, silver medals cost $500, and bronze medals cost $300, with coaches receiving 50% of that bonus.
Implementing a clear bonus policy early on not only motivates, but also shows respect for the tireless efforts of national team players.
Expectations for a ‘gold mine’ in Vietnamese sports
Athletics has always been the biggest hope for many SEA Games. At the 31st SEA Games held in Korea, the track and field team won 22 gold medals and established itself as a regional powerhouse. At the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia, the team achieved impressive results by winning 12 gold medals, once again confirming that athletics is an irreplaceable sport.

Besides athletics, swimming still remains a major sport. Swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang remains in the lead with strong performances in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle. Young players like Vo Thi Mitien and Nguyen Thi Hien are also expected to show amazing performances. For swimming, I am aiming for 6 to 8 gold medals.
More than 60 sports will participate in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, of which Vietnam will participate in 47 sports. A team of 1,165 athletes will participate, with 842 athletes competing in 443 events. This is one of the largest delegations ever.
Get serious – aim for a long-term vision
Player selection and evaluation has been underway nationwide since early 2025. Each individual and each sport team is comprehensively evaluated on their capabilities, performance, physical strength, and mental strength. A delegation roster of over a thousand people is not just a number, it is the culmination of tens of thousands of hours of training and dedication.
Investments continue to be made in strong sports such as track and field, swimming, wrestling, canoeing, shooting, and chess. In addition, a strategy to strengthen our capabilities to achieve future goals such as the Asian Games and Olympics is also a top priority.
Many meeting places, including the National Sports Promotion Center, are always crowded with training atmosphere from early morning to late evening.
Many key units were sent to Korea, Japan, Hungary, etc. to adapt to a modernized professional environment. The remaining units underwent intensive training domestically with the goal of preparing before departure.
Sports Medicine – Nutrition – A “soft shield” that protects performance
Along with training, sports medicine is also being strengthened. Each athlete completes a daily health log and is provided with a customized nutritional plan for each sport. A team of doctors and therapists are always on hand to help athletes recover optimally after each training session.

The 33rd Southeast Asian Games is not only a venue for competition, but also a venue for Vietnamese sports to demonstrate their spirit, indomitable spirit and desire to leap forward. The delegation’s strategy is aimed at two goals. Maintaining our position in the top three in the region while also laying a solid foundation for the continent’s future.
In the spirit of unity, faith and national pride, all athletes participating in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games bear the responsibility and desire to continue writing the proud golden page of Vietnamese sports.
