The Vietnamese badminton team faced a big challenge against the strong players from Malaysia in the opening match of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games. The Vietnamese women’s badminton team consists of six players: Nguyen Thuy Linh, Bui Bich Phuong, Pham Thi Dieu Ly, Pham Thi Khanh, Tran Thi Phuong Thuy and Vu Thi Trang. Nguyen Thuy Linh is the highest ranked player and is currently ranked 22nd in the world.
The Malaysian women’s badminton team consists of ten players. The highest ranked is Karupathevan Letshanaa (world number 42). Ling Ching Wong is ranked 44th. Although no player on the Malaysian women’s badminton team is ranked above Thuy Linh in the world rankings, the team is considered extremely strong due to its balance.

Nguyen Thuy Linh is the most anticipated female tennis player.
On the afternoon of December 6, the Vietnamese tennis players completed their final training at the competition site (on the campus of Thammasat University in Pathum Thani, Thailand) before officially competing in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games. During training, the coaching team motivated the players and discussed tactics.
A member of the coaching team of the Vietnamese national badminton team told a reporter from Thanh Nien that the line-up for the game against Malaysia would only be announced before the game. “So that all six Vietnamese athletes can compete against the Malaysian players,” said the member of the coaching team.
