JAKARTA – Solo badminton player Putri Kusuma Wardani refused to underestimate Myanmar in the first women’s doubles match of the 2025 Indonesian Eastern Games.
The draw for the doubles matches in the two-year multi-sport tournament was officially made on Saturday, December 6, 2025. The women’s team advanced through to the final, while the men were reduced to the draw, which took them straight to the semi-finals.
On paper, Indonesia is definitely weaker to win and qualify for the semi-final. However, Putri, who is the team’s first singles player, doesn’t want to feel superior.
“If the team itself is sure to win against Myanmar in the quarterfinals tomorrow, we should not underestimate because they have a pretty good tennis player,” Putri said.
Putri will probably be in action tomorrow. If she is online, she will play against Thet Htar Thuzar, who is the opponent’s main women’s tennis player.
The Tangerang-born badminton player admitted that she was already scared because it was the first time she took the status of the first Indian badminton player in Indonesia’s doubles.
“Now this is really the first single. It’s a bit of a trend because in doubles, the first opening is quite decisive for the team at the bottom. If we can win, the rest can have more confidence,” he declared.
Eng Hian, director of Pelatnas PBSI media platform, is optimistic that Indonesia should be able to reach the semi-final against Myanmar, so he has foreseen the possibility of fighting against Malaysia at this stage.
“Tomorrow the women’s team will meet Myanmar and then, looking at the semi-final, it looks like they will meet Malaysia. Of course, we’re going to map the meet records to see who goes down,” he said.
The badminton matches of the 2025 Association of Southeast Asian Nations Games will be held at Gymnasium 4 of Thammasat University Rangsit Campus from December 7 to 10 for doubles, and December 11 to 14 for singles.
