Rebekah Koha’s coach is worried about the athlete’s health

Fans of sports, especially weightlifting, could read a pleasant, but at the same time disturbing news on the “Instagram” profile of weightlifter Rebecca Koha on Sunday evening. Namely, the titled Latvian weightlifter has recently converted to Islam. Her partner is Qatar-born discus thrower Moaz Muhammad Ibrahim, so after a short time together, the Latvian decided to convert to another religious denomination – Islam.

The two athletes met each other in an international competition in Doha, but already in March, the Latvian media reported that the two were united by more than a simple friendship. In a conversation with the news agency LETA, the strong feelings of both young people were also confirmed by weightlifting coach Andruškevičs.

“Rebecca has long told me that she loves this guy … It is her personal life, but we talked, and I said that if you choose to accept this faith, you have to learn a lot before that,” says the coach. “She replied to me that she was well aware of everything.”

“I think that everything is based on love. We talked to Rebecca earlier … She said that this would not interfere with her career in any way, but now there is another problem – health misfortunes. A lark that did not find anything in the initial tests, although Rebecca has problems with her knees. She is currently having a hard time withstanding a heavy load. “

At the Latvian championship in Koha’s pulling discipline, which took place in March, a barbell weighing 104 kilograms was handled, but 126 kilograms were pushed out of the chest, but it was not possible to hold the barbell.

“I am worried about whether Rebecca will be able to withstand the whole program. She started well in the Latvian championship, but now there are health problems and I know that Rebecca will not want to fight for the tenth position,” explains the specialist. “The possible result in the spring has yet to be repeated.”

This year, a European championship for juniors and U-23 athletes was planned in the Finnish city of Rovaniemi from September 10 to 20, but last week the competition was postponed to next year. This is one of the many competitions that are postponed to a later time, so the athletes of the Latvian national team plan to hold the next competition here in their homeland.

“At the moment, there is still a European Championship for adults in Moscow, which will take place at the end of October and November. All athletes must start there, if it is planned to participate in the Olympics,” says Andruškevičs. “At the end of August, we will participate in the Latvian championship in some exercises, and some tournaments are also planned.”

“We have also received invitations from our neighbors, Lithuanians and Estonians, as well as Poland. We are allowed to travel to these countries without special conditions, so we will probably go there as well.”

The Latvian championship in some exercises is scheduled for August 28-30, but the European championship in Moscow is expected in the period from October 31 to November 8.

Last year in Bucharest, Koha was crowned European Champion for the second year in a row.
