Weiss on Happiness & Slovan’s Fan Engagement | Ray Match Recap

After the match with Rayo Vallecano, we saw the best press conference of Slovan, and therefore also of his coach Vladimír Weiss Sr., this season. The positive result of the match contributed to this, but also the overall good atmosphere, which was quite tense in the last weeks and maybe even months.

After the Slavists’ first victory in the Conference League, Weiss did not hide his satisfaction and entertained the journalists with his bon mots.

“I’m a friend or not a friend, because you don’t even have those anymore, he said that for me personally, the Conference League is in quotes for punishment. We experienced the Champions League, we all celebrated, even though we lost all the matches. When the Conference League comes after the Champions League, people hate it. And everyone hates it – including you journalists, us coaches, and spectators,” he said in his assessment.

In the text you will also read:

  • what other interesting things did Weiss say;
  • which two key players will he miss until the end of autumn;
  • how he had fun with a Spanish journalist;
  • why Rayo Vallecano is an anti-fascist, anti-racist and anti-homophobic club.

Extremely interesting things happened before the match. The situation between the ultras fans of Slovan, the players and the coach was tense. The fans don’t like the fact that the Slavonians played below their capabilities in the previous matches, so they first boycotted them in November, later cursed them and finally quarreled with each other.

Coach Weiss told the fans that he will not kneel in front of them. “It depends who shouts it and why they shout it. When they are 15-year-old children,” he said after the hard-fought league victory over Komárno less than three weeks ago.

In this match, the fans demanded an end to it, shouting at the players that they were “overpaid f*cks” and that they were “playing like scumbags”.

“I respect every Slovan fan. We brought here 20,000 fans, families with children, who gave us a standing ovation like this a year ago when we lost 0:4 to Manchester City. The players also played for the sake of the spectators. They gave us an impulse, but there were 20,000 of them, not 200 of them, who devalue the name of Slovan,” he added.

The fans did not forget his words, in the opening twelve minutes of the match with Ray, they were silent, did not encourage, then spread a banner with a clear message for Weiss:
