A second consecutive victory and a good statistic for Wemby. After their success against Houston the day before, Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs did it again on the night of Saturday to Sunday against New Orleans (126-119). In front of its home crowd, San Antonio was never led by the Pelicans, decimated by injuries, and was able to count on the return of De’Aaron Fox and a double-double from its French star.
Victor Wembanyama scored little against the Pelicans: only 18 points in 32 minutes, mainly due to poor success in his three-point shots (2/9 on winning shots, 8/19 in total). Far from having had his best game offensively, the Olympic vice-champion above all delivered an interior recital with no less than 18 rebounds, ten more than the day before against the Rockets.
San Antonio 2nd in its conference
The Spurs were especially able to count on the very good return of leader De’Aaron Fox for his first match of the season after his thigh injury. With 24 points and 3 assists in 31 minutes, the 27-year-old American even finished as his team’s top scorer.
After its two defeats in quick succession, the Texan franchise got back on track this weekend and is second in the Western Conference with seven victories in nine games. She will travel to the Chicago Bulls floor during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday (2 a.m.) to confirm her very good start to the season.
