LISBON – Norwegian football representative Andreas Schjelderup was accused in Denmark of sharing a sexual video with minors when he played for Nordsjaelland two years ago.

In a statement on Instagram, the 21-year-old player wrote that he made a stupid mistake, regrets the incident and will accept the imposed punishment.

Schjelderup said he then received the video, which he shared with a friend without knowing the full content. As soon as he found out what it was about, he allegedly deleted the recording.

He repents and pours ashes on his head

“What I did back then in Denmark was illegal and wrong. I will take full responsibility for it. I would like to first of all apologize to those affected by the video. Then to my friends, family, employers, country and all the fans I let down. I wish I could turn back time and correct my mistake.” wrote the player who is nominated for the upcoming final World Cup qualifiers against Estonia and Italy. The Norwegians lead Group I with a full point gain from six games. They can advance to the WC for the first time since 1998.

Schjelderup said he cooperated with Danish police and was charged with the crime. In the near future, he will face court and, according to his statement, he will probably receive a suspended sentence. Danish media said he is due to appear in court at the end of the month.

According to chairman Ruio Costa, Benfica, which bought the footballer last year for 14 million euros, will support Schjelderup in the case.
