FC Bayern had won all 16 games this season – until they had to travel to 1. FC Union Berlin in Köpenick. The Iron Men were even on the verge of a victory until shortly before the end.

FC Bayern Munich’s almost unprecedented winning streak came to an unexpected end on Saturday at the An der Alten Försterei stadium. Ten years after former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola had strung together ten wins in a row, FC Bayern barely managed to win a point against 1. FC Union Berlin. This meant that the Munich team dropped points for the first time after nine wins in a row since the start of the season. Ironically, FC Bayern still extends its lead in the table because Leipzig lost in Hoffenheim and Dortmund did not win in Hamburg. So far, the Munich team had won all 16 competitive games this season; their last defeat so far came at the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain.
