Kirchdorf.The 3rd ÖBV-Schüler-Ranglistlistlisten tournament in Weiz, Styria, was a thrilling showcase of young badminton talent, blending exciting competition with impressive performances from Kirchdorf’s rising stars.
The tournament featured age groups from U11 to U15,marking a meaningful national-level debut for the Kirchdorf sports union delegation. Early rounds quickly revealed the heightened competition at the federal level, but Kirchdorf’s athletes rose to the challenge.
jonas Rosenberger immediately made his mark in the U15 B class men’s singles. In a stunning upset, he qualified for the main draw and nearly took down the top-seeded player. After dropping the first set, Rosenberger mounted a comeback, clinching the second set 25-23 in a nail-biting overtime victory. He continued to battle fiercely in the deciding set, ultimately falling just short with a 19-21 loss in a match that was a true spectacle.
I’m incredibly pleased with my first tournament at this level. I never imagined I’d come this close to the top seed. With a bit more luck, I might have achieved even more,
Rosenberger commented after his round of 16 match, reflecting a positive outlook on his performance.
Emma Bachl also delivered a memorable performance in the women’s singles U15 B. Her opening group game was an absolute thriller, a heart-stopping match that saw her narrowly lose the third set 24-26 to the eventual tournament champion from Alcov. Despite the tough opening, Bachl secured a strong fifth-place finish overall.
The close defeat in the preliminary round still stings a bit. I was so close to winning, but the tournament was a fantastic experience, and I felt I found my rhythm well,
said the promising young talent from Kirchdorf.
Bachl and Rosenberger also teamed up in mixed doubles, showcasing remarkable fighting spirit. They put up a strong fight against one of Austria’s top U15 duos, scoring an impressive 16 and 19 points, signaling that thier ascent to the top ranks is well within reach.
Team Spirit Fuels Success
Beyond individual achievements, the exceptional camaraderie within the Kirchdorf youth team stood out.
The team spirit was truly outstanding.It was inspiring to witness the kids supporting each other and bonding as a group, both on and off the court,
emphasized coach Philipp Rosenauer.
We saw so many fantastic matches, and most importantly, the children had a blast together. This is exactly the kind of experience we want for our young athletes,
Rosenauer added.
Despite a few individual setbacks, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive.
We represented ourselves well on the national stage, gained invaluable experience, and are genuinely eager for the next challenges,
the coaching team stated in unison.
