The next NBA stars match will present a three -team tournament made up of eight players – two from the United States and one of the rest of the world – according to Shams Charania of the network ESPN.
The NBA and the Association of Players presented this formula to the competition committee and the proposal would have been received.
With the monster success of the confrontation of the four nations, which replaced the traditional star match last February, the NBA could try to imitate the NHL in order to attract more viewers with this brand new tournament.
The NBA listening ratings have never been so bad since the creation of the stars match. In 2025, only 4.7 million people watched the star match, a decrease of 13% compared to 2024.
In 1990, the year of creating the competition, the listening ratings were 13 million people. In 1993, at its peak, they climbed nearly 23 million.
However, the final at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 shows that the interest in international basketball competitions is present. With an average of 19.5 million viewers, it was the most watched event of the Paris Olympics.
The fact remains that it would be more than astonishing that this formula brings as much intensity as the confrontation of the four nations, if it does indeed take place.
