Hangzhou-Yajiang Summer Class: Bridging Education & Culture

In the busiest season of harvesting in the “Chinese Matsutake Land”, parents cross mountains and rivers to look for delicacies, but the children’s summer care has become a concern. During the past summer vacation, the Hangzhou Aiya teacher team organized a public welfare summer care class to the primary school of Xiala Town, using knowledge and care to support the colorful holidays of children in Tibet, and also wrote a warm footnote for the education and assistance of the two places.

How to find change in transactions? Life is the classroom, and knowledge takes root and sprouts in the fireworks. Science class is like a wonderful adventure: the tension of water makes the coins float on the water, the siphon flows like magic, and the wordless heavenly book is quietly “deciphered” by chemical reagents; the children make cell models with their own hands, and for the first time “see” the microscopic world of life. In the art room, the indigo dyed cloth is filled with the ancient charm of intangible cultural heritage of Jiangnan. The Tibetan patterns are rejuvenated under the tender brushstrokes. Round fans and bookmarks carry the affectionate dialogue between the cultures of the two places. On the playground, the rhythm of basketball hitting the ground was very enthusiastic – Hangzhou teachers leveraged the local “Matsutake Basketball Festival” cultural IP to open two special training classes. From dribbling to cooperation, the students sweated while running.

This is not only a relay for education, but also a closeness between hearts. The summer care class time is accurately connected to the Matsutake season, allowing parents to run around the forest market with peace of mind, no longer need to worry about their children. What Hangzhou teachers bring is not only advanced concepts, but also warm designs adapted to local conditions: they brought Song Yun culture into the plateau classroom and painted the growth of Matsutake into art creation; the team flag of the basketball game has both modern competitive spirit and ancient symbols of Tibetan totem. Hangzhou Ai Ya teachers said: “We hope that children will not only retain cultural roots in the collision between tradition and modernity, but also embrace the broad world.”
