Kepa to Arsenal: Gunners Sign Chelsea Goalkeeper

The 30-year-old joins the Gunners on a permanent deal after Arsenal triggered the £5 million release clause in his contract.

Kepa arrives at the Emirates Stadium as a back-up to first-choice goalkeeper David Raya. Neto, who served as Raya’s deputy last season, has returned to Bournemouth.

The Spaniard’s career began at Athletic Bilbao, where he rose through the ranks before joining Chelsea seven years ago in a world-record €80 million deal for a goalkeeper.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, he won major trophies, including the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Kepa spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, where he impressed by keeping eight clean sheets in 31 appearances, helping the club achieve the Premier League’s sixth-best defensive record.

“I’m really, really happy to be here – really excited and looking forward to what is coming,” Kepa said via Arsenal’s official website.

Last season’s runners-up are currently ramping up preparations for pre-season ahead of their opening friendly against AC Milan in Singapore later this month.
