NBA Eyes European Expansion: A League of Their Own Across the Pond?

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently addressed the potential for a European NBA league, tempering expectations for a rapid launch. Speaking at an NBA event in Oklahoma city, Silver emphasized the long-term nature of the project.

I would say it is indeed measured in years,not in months. We are therefore at least two years from the launch. It would be a colossal project.And if we want to move forward at a sustained pace, we also want to consult all the stakeholders concerned, namely the existing league, its teams, european players, the media and marketing partners. There remains a lot of work to do.

Though, navigating the existing European basketball landscape, with its established leagues and fan bases, presents a notable challenge. some critics argue that a new NBA-backed league could disrupt the existing ecosystem and potentially alienate European fans loyal to their local teams.

Anyway, we continue to think that there are a huge number of basketball fans badly served in Europe and that there is a strong chance to have another league modeled on the NBA.
