This review is from yesterday…
After separating from coach Urs Fischer (57), Union Berlin is relying on the previous U19 coach Marco Grote on an interim basis. And he takes his previous assistant coach with him: Marie-Louise Eta (32).
This really bothers HIM: star player agent Maik Barthel. He caused a stir with an embarrassing post on X (formerly Twitter).
Photo:
Barthel writes that an assistant coach “has to go into the team’s locker room sometimes.” Obviously a reference to the female occupation of the office!
And further (taken verbatim): “Please don’t expose German football to ridicule. It’s enough to completely destroy the team’s hierarchy with the transfers. There’s no need for other stories right now.”
Stone Age statements from the player agent!

Barthel has since deleted the embarrassing post and rows back in a new post. “I have to rephrase it. Making an assistant coach an issue will not help Union repair the destroyed team hierarchy.”

Barthel is Robert Lewandowski’s (35) ex-advisor and looked after the Pole until 2020. After the separation, Barthel teased his ex-protégé and accused him of that not Barcelona, but Real Madrid should be the club of his heart. Lewandowski moved to Barça in 2022 and is now looked after by star advisor Pini Zahavi (80).
Maik Barthel advises numerous professionals from Europe. The current figurehead is young international Kevin Schade (21/3 international caps), who moved from SC Freiburg to FC Brentford in the summer for 25 million euros. Maximilian Beier (21, Hoffenheim) is one of Barthel’s clients from the Bundesliga.
