Verstappen wins the Australian GP

Verstappen, 25 years old, achieved his thirty-seventh victory in the F1 -the second of the season- by winning ahead of Englishman Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Alonso, who finished third and -at 41- signed his 101st podium in the premier class.

The Asturian double world champion finished third this Sunday at Albert Park, where two consecutive interruptions were decreed with three to go to complete the 58 laps scheduled. First, due to the accident of the Danish Kevin Magnussen (Haas); and then due to the mishaps that occurred after the second re-start, in which Sainz touched Alonso -who had lost third place in favor of his compatriot and returned to the track eleventh- before the race management decreed that the race restart, for the third time, with a single lap, behind the safety car .

Sainz was penalized with five seconds, so he not only lost fourth place, but also finished out of the points (he was twelfth) in a race in which the Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) starred in the great comeback, finishing fifth after having started from the ‘pit lane’.

Englishman Lando Norris (McLaren) finished sixth, one place ahead of the German Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) in Albert Park, where the Australian rookie Oscar Piastri (McLaren) scored his first points in the F1 World Championship in front of his fans, finishing eighth.

They also scored the Chinese Guanyu Zhou (Alfa Romeo) and the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri), who finished ninth and tenth, respectively.
