Sports celebrities inspire women with virtual forum – El Sol de León

Leon, Guanajuato.- The fight for equality and female integration also occurs in the sports field, which is why to commemorate March 8, COMUDE León held its Virtual International Forum for Women and Sports in which athletes who have made history in disciplines such as boxing, judo and athletics.

commemorating the International Women’s Day This virtual forum was held whose speakers were female athletes who from multiple disciplines faced and have overcome obstacles and prejudices to make their way in their sporting career. The program was integrated by five presentations.

Who opened the curtain was Fabiola Ramírez, medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and international multi-medalist. The Aguascaliente pointed out that her sport allowed her to overcome her condition of congenital multiple arthrogryposis and thanks to the support of her family she was able to start para-swimming, a discipline that has projected her as one of the best worldwide.

Another speaker was Vanessa Zambotti, judo specialist who reported that his biggest rivals on the tatami were prejudice when training in a contact discipline.

Judo serves to empower you like any sport you practice, training and competing against the current. It is important that gender equality be promoted, that the participation of women be encouraged”, highlighted Zambotti, who participated in four Olympic Games.

Other participants were the Colombian Daniela Hernández, consultant for UNESCO and the Ibero-American Sports Council. Also the former world boxing champion “Jackie” Nava.

“That stage touched me when women’s boxing began, they pointed to me as a woman, they give you another label and they tell you that you should be at home, but when your dreams are bigger than your fears, achievements occur. I am very happy to have been a part of this, now we see fights of stellar women. To the women who come I tell them not to back down”, exalted the “Aztec Princess”.

The person in charge of closing the forum was American runner Kathrine Switzer who made history at the 71st Boston Marathon being the first woman to run said test: “My dream became to prove that I could run 26 miles, 385 yards. I realized that this was very important and this was going to change my life and women’s sport.” commented the runner.
