Borussia Dortmund reached the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday. The team of coach Edin Terzic won 1-2 at VfL Bochum, partly thanks to a 50-meter goal from Emre Can. In the Coupe de France, Paris Saint-Germain lost at Olympique Marseille: 2-1.
Can made the remarkable goal just before half time. The German midfielder received the ball at the center line in the feet of Bochum keeper Manuel Riemann, who had come far from his goal. Can didn’t hesitate and shot the ball from about 50 meters into the empty goal.
Halfway through the second half, Bochum leveled through a penalty from Kevin Stöger. Six minutes later, Dortmund took the lead again thanks to Marco Reus, who had just come in after good preparatory work by Jude Bellingham.
After that, Dortmund did not relinquish the lead. Donyell Malen remained on the bench with the visitors for the entire game.
In France, Paris Saint-Germain lost to Olympique Marseille in the eighth finals of the Coupe de France. Alexis Sánchez gave the home team the lead from a penalty after half an hour.
Just before the break, Sergio Ramos leveled PSG. The Spaniard headed in from a corner kick from Neymar. Ruslan Malinovskyi gave Marseille the lead again early in the second half from a rebound. The visitors, with Lionel Messi also in the team, were then unable to force extra time.
