Coming from the qualifications, Joanne Züger (WTA 180) did not manage to chain a 3rd success in the WTA 250 tournament in Hua Hin. The 22-year-old Baloise was beaten 6-2 6-2 in the first round by Chinese Wang Xinyu (81), seeded No. 7 in the table in Thailand.
Finalist of an ITF tournament in India 8 days earlier, Züger never seemed able to create a surprise in Thailand, even if she signed the entry break. She conceded no less than 7 times her serve, including 4 in the second set of a game that lasted less than 1h20′.
The Bâloise appeared for the 3rd time in the main draw of a WTA tournament. She had won her first match, last July in Hamburg against Wimbledon quarter-finalist Jule Niemeier, but had already been knocked out in the first round in Chennai in September.
