Finally back on the courts seven months after an anthology semi‐final against Rafael Nadal at Roland‐Garros, Alexander Zverev returned for Sky Sports on his rehabilitation disrupted by a too early return to the Davis Cup, which earned him bone edema and a stress fracture in the back. At the time, the German truly believed his career was in jeopardy.
“Definitely, I think I’ve had a few hits since my injury in June at Roland Garros, but that one was really when I thought I was healthy and when I thought I could come back to the Davis Cup. And the wound itself was healed, but I was told the bones weren’t ready for the strain. Because I had extreme bone damage, I had bone edema, and also a bone stress fracture at one point. It was a bit difficult for me mentally. Because I had to start over and was told I couldn’t do anything for six weeks. It was not very pleasant and not very easy. But when the accident happened, I immediately thought my career was over. »
