The 82-year-old Pelé was operated on for colon cancer last year and therefore has to regularly report to the hospital for a check-up. On Tuesday, he was again admitted to Albert Einstein Hospital where doctors prescribed him a course of antibiotics because of a respiratory infection.

Pelé had already sent a reassuring message to the world via Instagram on Thursday. The only footballer with three world titles on his honors list (1958, 1962, 1970) confirmed that he brought his monthly checkup to the hospital and thanked everyone for the messages of support. However, Brazilian media wrote that Pelé is dealing with metastasis of cancer in his body. Because chemotherapy no longer helps, the doctors would now mainly want to ensure that the former top football player has as little pain as possible.

OVERVIEW – Pelé has been in the sucker street for a while

Pelé is hospitalized in Paris after a bladder infection. After a week, the football legend, who has only one kidney, feels well enough to travel back to Brazil. After further investigations it comes to light that he is suffering from kidney stones. He is having surgery on his ureter.

During a routine heart and blood vessel examination, a tumor is found in his colon. A week later, surgery to remove the tumor follows. Pelé will then be on intensive care for a few days and then chemotherapy will follow. “I will enter this competition with a smile and optimism,” he writes on Instagram. He will be released from hospital at the end of September.

The Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo reports that Pelé has been admitted again. His condition is stable, but he needs extra care. “Don’t worry, I’m just getting ready for the holidays,” Pelé responded. After his last chemotherapy, he can go home on December 23, just before Christmas.

Not only cancer continues to plague Pelé. In February of this year he is again hospitalized with a urinary tract infection. He is fired after two weeks. “He has recovered from his infection. He is clinically stable,” the hospital said.

Not an emergency this time. As announced in advance, Pelé will spend several days in hospital for his ongoing cancer treatment. He soon returns home.

Brazilian media report that Pelé is not doing well, again in the hospital. His cancer treatment would not work, writes ESPN. Daughter Kely tries to reassure everyone. “There is no emergency.”
