“We haven’t seen you on court since losing to Gijs Brouwer at the Ilkley Challenger last June. When can we expect to see you back on the circuit?
As soon as I can really resume. I was bothered by somewhat boring health problems last June, which have not allowed me to train since. I hit the ball again for the first time in five months on Wednesday morning, at the CNE, with Pierre-Hugues (Herbert). I won’t be in Australia, that’s for sure, I won’t set foot there, no matter what. I hope to be ready in the next few months. It will take the time it needs.
“There were ups and downs. Lots of bottoms »
But the desire to find the circuit is still there?
The desire was… There were ups and downs. Lots of bottoms. A little… not depression, but demoralization. Coming back after the elbow injury, then having to start again on something long, stopping again. There was in my head, in June, July, a moment when it was completely cut off. It was a somewhat indeterminate stop.
Is that no longer the case today?
There is a goal that has always been a point in my career, it is to participate in the Olympic Games. I have a year and a half left to get back into the top 50, let’s say, to be almost sure of being qualified for Paris 2024. This is what is tilting the cursor towards a real recovery. »
