FIFA threatens Tunisia to withdraw from 2022 World Cup

KOMPAS.com – FIFA issued a threat to exclude Tunisia from the 2022 World Cup.

This was due to comments by the Tunisian Minister of Youth and Sports Kamel Deguiche who alluded to “the dissolution of several federal offices of various disciplines”.

FIFA also asked for clarification from the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) about what it described as attempts by state authorities to interfere in the Tunisian federation’s internal affairs and its threats to dissolve the FTF offices.

“In this regard, we would like to remind you that FIFA’s member associations are legally obligated to conduct their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties,” FIFA said in a letter published by radio stations. Mosaic FM.

“Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in the imposition of penalties under FIFA law, including suspension of the relevant association.”

FIFA has insisted that the FTF clarify its stance on the minister’s comments by Friday.

A copy of the letter is said to have been forwarded to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The suspension of the FTF could bar Tunisia’s national and football clubs from participating in regional or international tournaments, including the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Tunisian sports law researcher Adnen Abid told Saudi Arabian media, The Nationalthat FIFA’s laws regarding the interference of third parties in national football federations are clear.

Adnen mentions Article 19 of the FIFA Statute which deals with the independence of members stipulating the importance of national football federations in carrying out their affairs independently from third party interference.

“Paragraph two of the same chapter emphasizes the importance of naming federation members in a democratic way, independent of interference from national authorities,” Abid told The National.

Tunisia is in Group D with Australia, Denmark and France.
