Octavio Becerra, Mexican prospect, from taquero to pitcher for Los Angeles, Dodgers (VIDEO)

Octavio Becerra was born on February 3, 2001 in Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico; where he began his path in baseball within the regional leagues, while he worked in his uncle’s taqueria.

At the age of 17, the now Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher was signed by the Rieleros de Aguascalientes in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), a team with which he debuted during the 2018 season.

During his second campaign as a professional player on the Mexican summer circuit, Becerra was seen by a scout from the Los Angeles organization, who was in charge of recruiting him.

“I was 13 years old when I started working. She worked nights, studied in the mornings, and trained in the afternoons. That’s how it was every day,” the left-hander mentioned in a video created and published by Major League Baseball (MLB).

In 2021, after the suspension due to COVID-19, Becerra saw activity for the first time in the Arizona Complex League with ACL Dodgers at the Rookie level and, thanks to his good numbers, he was promoted to Class-A with Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the California League for 2022.

“(Being as a taco maker) helped me a lot with discipline, to arrive early and respect people. If I related pitching to mincing meat, it would be like always looking for a way to make things a little easier; not only be pique and pique, but find a line for him to perform more and not be so complicated”, added the Mexican.
