The Oviedo Badminton Club got off to a good start in the new season in the Top 10 Iberdrola, the highest category, by beating Ravachol de Pontevedra 4-3 at the Tudela Agüeria sports centre. A meager victory, but very important from the emotional point of view as the Spaniard is a tremendously renewed team. “We added important points from the point of view of the team’s motivation and filming; however, there are things to adjust, since we have new players and partners,” Oviedo coach Fran Dacal said after the match.

The points for Oviedo came from mixed doubles, with captain Alberto Zapico and debutant Amaia Torralba; the men’s doubles, made up by Zapico himself and Javier Suárez, and the two men’s singles, played by Álvaro Leal and the Mexican Luis Montoya.

On the other hand, the defeats of the Asturian team came in the women’s singles and in the women’s doubles, which meant the return to official competition of the Ukrainian Kristina Sotomayor after her motherhood and after leaving her country due to the Russian invasion.

Benalmadena, the next

The next day of the Top 10 Iberdrola will take Oviedo to Malaga, where they will play as a visitor against Benalmádena. It will take a while, since the appointment is on October 22.
