Netflix announced this Thursday by surprise the premiere of ‘The Figo case: the signing of the century’a documentary film that will analyze one of the most controversial transfers in football history.

This production, which will be available from August 25thwill expose for the first time the in-depth testimonies of its main protagonists two decades later: Luís Figo, who signed for Barcelona in 1995 to go to Real Madrid five years later; José VeigaFigo’s agent for most of his career and the figure who brokered the deal, and Florentino Pérez, who began his presidency with the audacious transfer.

“I identified with the values ​​of the club, I defended them to the death. I was seen as one more”, comments Luís Figo in the documentary trailer: “So many people have spoken without knowing, but I have the true story because I am the protagonist”. The president of Real Madrid uses similar words: “I am the protagonist and all I am going to tell you is what happened.”

‘The Figo case: The signing of the century’ is the result of in-depth investigative work with more than 30 hours of interviews with its 12 main participants. The documentary collects the testimonies of some of the most relevant figures in Spanish football such as Joan Gaspart, Paulo Futre, Pep Guardiola, Roberto Carlos, Fernando Hierro, Jorge Valdano, José Ramón de la Morena, José Félix Díaz or Toni Frieros.

The title, produced by Pitch Productions and directed by David Tryhorn and Ben Nicholas, contains files never before seen in Spain and Portugal, including images from Figo’s personal collection during his time in Barcelona and his vacation in Sardinia in the summer of 2000.
