Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto has stepped on the accelerator in the preparation of the team with which it will play its tenth consecutive season in the LEB Oro. The next to arrive will be Shaquille Walters, an English player from the Northeastern Huskies of the NCAA, who can occupy several positions in the outside game of the team that Trifón Poch is going to direct. Walters, 1.98 tall, usually plays as a point guard, although due to his physique he can also play shooting guard and even small forward if the team needs it. A piece that can contribute points, rebounds and assists to the team. Last season he averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Northeastern University team, located in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Asturian team has already quite advanced the outside line of the team. The Blues have Alonso Meana, trained in the OCB academy, with a lot of experience in the League and who will provide solidity in the point guard position; also with Romeo Crouch, a very talented player who comes from NCAA II and from whom great things are expected; and with the recently incorporated Chuso González, who must provide an external threat. Positions 1 and 2 are still waiting for at least a couple more reinforcements, two in the event that Hansel Atencia ends up leaving for Estudiantes. The team still has work to do, as they still have to add a couple of pieces at the forward position and close the paint with a center to replace Kabasele and another interior reinforcement.
Pruitt an option at small forward
Nigel Pruitt has many options to become an Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto player.
The forward, who can also play power forward, fits very well into the plans of a team that needs to add pieces in those positions and that adjust to the small budget that the blue team has. Pruitt is a player with a lot of ability to score who, in his last team, the Dutch Aris Leeuwarden, performed at a high level, averaging 18.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The forward, 2.01 tall, has a German passport and was trained in American college basketball at the Kennesaw State Owls, an NCAA team with which Kennesaw State University, Georgia State, competes. Once he graduated he played for teams in Germany and Austria.
Chuso González: ammunition for the OCB
The Alimerka Oviedo Basketball announced yesterday the incorporation of Chuso González, a 27-year-old shooting guard from Albacete who arrives from Zunder Palencia, a team that last season eliminated the OCB from the play-off for promotion to the ACB. The player from La Mancha, with extensive experience in LEB Plata and in LEB Oro, he had a leading role last year and arrives in Oviedo with the aim of being a more prominent player. The club’s general director, Héctor Galán, assured that González has “a lot of external threat” and that he is also “capable of carrying out unpredictable actions and changing match dynamics. The player, for his part, said through social networks that he felt “very happy, very grateful and very excited” to join the project that Trifón Poch is going to lead. “We are going to work and enjoy in equal parts to make it a great season,” he concluded.
