Flick praises ex-boss Kovac in the highest tones

The national soccer coach, Hansi Flick, was full of praise for his former boss Niko Kovac.

Flick switched to Bayern Munich as Kovac’s assistant in the summer of 2019 and rose to head coach there after his release in November of that year. Kovac returned to the Bundesliga just a few weeks ago as the new coach of VfL Wolfsburg.

“The Wolfsburg have signed an excellent coach and fine people. I can only congratulate those responsible for that,” said Flick of the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung” on Friday.

“We had and still have a very respectful relationship, which is characterized by mutual appreciation. You can rely on him. If he promises something, he keeps it.” Kovac “places great value on diligence and hard work. He manages to ensure that his teams are in top physical condition. That was impressively seen at Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt.”

The Wolfsburg team traveled to a nine-day training camp in Austria on Friday, where the national coach plans to visit the team next Monday. VfL striker Lukas Nmecha has a good chance of participating in the World Cup in Qatar.

His teammates Ridle Baku and Maximilian Arnold have also been nominated for the national team by Flick.
