Red shoes in “white” Wimbledon: tennis bully takes on reporters

For once, the Wimbledon round of 16 between Nick Kyrgios and Brandon Nakashima ended without any major incidents. After Kyrgios regularly fought with the audience, the referee or even with his opponent in his first matches, his match against the American was almost scandal-free. But Kyrgios wouldn’t be Kyrgios if he hadn’t caused a little scandal without a verbal outburst.

  • When he entered the court for his match, the Australian and self-confessed basketball fan was not only wearing a red Michael Jordan cap, but also bright red shoes from the well-known US brand. The strict dress code at Wimbledon prescribes “almost completely white clothing”.
  • The 27-year-old was questioned by a reporter. Kyrgios’ cheeky reply: “Um… because I do what I want!”
  • The reporter pointed out to Kyrgios that he has been complaining about the headlines and controversy lately, but ends up invoking them himself with such actions. The Australian replied: “I haven’t complained, I love it, more attention for me, as the saying goes: all publicity is good publicity, right?”
