The candidate for naturalization of the Indonesian national team, Sandy Walsh, observed how the Indonesian U-23 national team struggled at the 2021 SEA Games, in Vietnam.
Indonesia finally failed to reach the final after being defeated by Thailand in the semi-finals, with a score of 1-0. In the bronze match, Indonesia won on penalties over Malaysia.

Sandy considered that the Indonesian national team was good, considering that some of the senior national team players also defended the U-23 Indonesian national team at the SEA Games that passed.
However, Sandy also has several notes that must be corrected from the Indonesian national team later. He himself can not wait to be part of the Indonesian national team.
“It’s an amazing feeling of course, we got the medal we wanted, I’m very happy for Garuda Muda, the coach, and all the Indonesian people because the SEA Games are very important in Southeast Asia and it’s amazing that they got a medal,” said Sandy.
“I hope, the next step in their process and development,” he continued.
“I think the details, the details are very important but the spirit is there. Everything is good, I think the organization is good and maybe a little experience, so I look forward to joining the next step and sharing my experience with all the players and also the young players, and I think it will be a good mix and try to get to the Asian Cup, that’s the next goal,” he explained about what the Indonesian national team needed to improve.
Sandy has been in Indonesia for the past few days to take care of the administrative process for the transfer of citizenship. He and Jordi Amat are players of Indonesian descent who Shin Tae-yong wants to add to the quality of the Indonesian national team, especially in the upcoming 2023 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
