Faith Kipyegon from Kenya defended her gold at 1500 meters in Tokyo in the Olympic record of 3: 53.11. Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands will not win three gold, she finished third in her second final. Czech militia Kristiina Mäki was among the best last, the highlight for her was advancing to the final in the national record 4: 01.23.

Hassan, who planned three gold medals in the 1500-to-ten runs, took the lead at the start. Apparently she didn’t want the situation from the start to be repeated, where she fell in a crush and had to make up for a thirty-meter loss. She led in the middle of the last round, but then she was overtaken not only by Kipyegon, but also by British European Champion Laura Muir. Hassan is still waiting for Saturday in the groundbreaking combination.

Mäki was the first Czech runner in the 1500 meters Olympic final. The progression to him visibly cost her a lot of energy and today she could not keep up with the elite. She finished in thirteenth place in 4: 11.76.

The only Czech relay to play was Patrik Šorm, Pavel Maslák, Michal Desenský and Vít Müller. Compared to the June record in Cluj, Jan Tesař was replaced by Desenský, but the Czechs were more than a second behind at the time. Obstacle Müller on the last section repulsed the attack of the German quartet and defended at least the penultimate place.

Even repeating the record would not be enough to advance today, five relays ran under three minutes. The Americans won the start in the best time of the year 2: 57.77 and they still saved two of their finalists from individual Thursday, neither the fourth Michael Cherry nor the fifth Michael Norman.
